Colortone tie-dye printing & embroidery
Since 1988 Colortone has produced hand-dyed tie-dye and wash-effect cotton in Mt. Vernon (New York). 100+ colour combinations, dozens of patterns and pre-shrunk 100% cotton — popular for festival merch, school trips, streetwear drops and anything where colour and character matter more than a sleek corporate look. Each piece is uniquely dyed, so there is variation between items.
About Colortone
The range covers T-shirts, long sleeves, tanks, sweaters and hoodies, joggers, jean jackets, trucker hats, bandanas and sport bags. Standard 180 g/m² 100% cotton, pre-shrunk, in sizes from toddler to 5XL. Colortone itself calls it “heavyweight” — by European standards that is a solid mid-weight T-shirt. A perfect alternative to blank merch: every piece already stands on its own in terms of colour and character.

Why Colortone via Visualprint
- Decoration with the right technique for tie-dye: screen printing (classic, striking on a medium colour gradient), DTF/transfers (for full-colour designs on patterned fabric) or embroidery (subtle, strong contrast).
- Sublimation does not work on Colortone (already pre-dyed). What does work: water-based ink for a soft-hand feel that suits the vintage look.

Good to know
Characteristic vintage look
Colortone is hand-dyed on 100% cotton. After the first washes the colour may look slightly less saturated — this is due to fibrillation and light pilling of the outer fibres. This is not a product defect, but inherent to the garment-dye technique on heavyweight cotton.
In the fashion and festival merch world this "lived-in" look is actually valued. Colortone is therefore excellently suited to merch, events, retail and bands — less so for everyday workwear or corporate apparel that has to keep exactly the same look for years.
