Specialty inks: for when "ordinary" isn't enough
Glitter, puff, high density, discharge — specialty inks give your print a character that standard techniques cannot achieve. We actively develop our own formulations.
What are specialty inks?
Specialty inks are printing inks with special properties; they create effects that ordinary ink cannot. We use specials only with direct screen printing or screen printing transfers, not with DTF.
At Visualprint we actively experiment with new formulations. We're not just printers but also developers — enquiries about special effects are welcome.
Our specials

Foil
Metallic, neon or holographic foil (Kurz foil for textiles). Sharp edges and intense colours.
Glitter & shimmer
Ink with glitter flakes for a sparkling, eye-catching effect.
Neon
Bright fluorescent inks that really stand out, including under blacklight.
Multichrome
Ink that appears to change colour depending on the viewing angle — a holographic effect that standard ink cannot achieve.
High-density & 3D puff
Thickly built-up ink with relief; the logo literally rises up from the fabric.
Glow in the Dark
Ink that charges from light during the day and glows in the dark. Fun for events and theatre.
Thermochromic
Temperature-sensitive ink that changes colour with heat (body warmth or sun).
Reflective
Reflects light (e.g. headlights) — visibility and a bold effect in the dark.
Debossing
A logo or pattern pressed into the fabric — no ink, just relief. A subtle, premium accent on fleece, softshell and heavy cotton.
When do you choose a specialty?
Specialty inks are the right choice when:
- You want to stand out — everyone has an embroidered or standard-printed logo
- You want a premium look without embroidery
- You have a specific effect in mind (3D, glitter, foil)
What do you need to order?
The design: vector (.AI, .EPS, .PDF, .SVG) or a high-resolution image. For specialty inks we work best with graphic designs; fine detail or photography is less suitable.
The textile: each specialty has its own preferences. Discharge only on specific dark textiles; puff on thick fabrics; foil on most textiles.
The quantities: minimum 50 pieces. We can supply specials only in direct screen printing or screen printing transfers, not as DTF.
Delivery time & price indication
Standard delivery time: on average 7–10 working days, sometimes a little longer for extra process steps or experimental work. R&D / experimental: by arrangement, may take longer.
Price: specialty inks carry a surcharge over standard screen printing or DTF. For a custom-made special we charge development costs; developing it can take a while. Request a quote for concrete figures.
